Learn the Basics from the Beehive Pros... What You Can Expect
Q. Does waxing hurt?
A. It hurts more the first time than any other time because you are pulling out 100% of the hair, your nerves are on edge, and you don’t know what to expect. But, it is a quick, temporary sting that stops hurting right away. Follow all the tips we give you and you'll be fine. The next time is much easier! After your first wax, the hair grows back finer and more sparse, becomes less prickly between waxings, and retains its smoothness much longer.
Q. How long do I have to let my hair grow out?
A. As long as possible. Seriously, the longer the better... 3-4 weeks or 1/2", whichever is longer. The more follicles/roots we can pull, the cleaner the wax, the longer it is going to last & the happier you are going to be! It can be hard to let it grow out but the longer the hair is, the cleaner it will turn out.

- Initially grow hair out 3-4 weeks or 1/2", whichever is longer. For best results, the longer the better.
- Use "Numb-It!" 15 minutes before waxing. It's a topical gel... 1 drop is adequate for 2 square inches. It's available in the Beehive Salon for purchase prior to your appointment, or shop online, anytime! "Numb-It!" is the "strongest OTC analgesic available without a prescription."
- Do not ingest caffeine.
- If OK with your doctor, take ibuprofren one hour ahead.
- If your skin is sensitive prior to and during your period, you may want to avoid waxing. However, if you don't mind, we don't either.

Q. How long will it last?
A. In order to keep the hair coming in at a reduced rate, you would come in about every 3-6 weeks. The discomfort would be about 1/3 of what it originally was because you would be having about 1/3 of your hair removed. If you follow the “Beehive Rules to Wax By” and come in on our recommeded schedule, you should be a “HAPPY CAMPER” by your 2nd visit! And that is what we want, a close to painfree wax as possible!
Q. What will I be wearing in the treatment room?
A. We provide a paper disposable thong for you to change into to make sure we don’t get wax on your nice underwear! If you are getting a Brazilian we provide a modesty drape prior to treatment.
Q. When you say Brazilian, what do you mean?
A. The definition varies. For us, if we remove the labia hair it is a Brazilian—regardless of what you leave or don’t leave on top, a line, a triangle, or nothing. Our standard Brazilian is a la carte (no tush) unless requested.
Q. It’s so hard to let the hair grow in the summer—ideas?
A. Try boy shorts, board shorts, sarongs or tankinis so you don’t have to shave. In some cases, bleach or tweezers may work.
Q. What's the big deal about "double-dipping?
A. Double-dipping is a common practice of many unethical salons. To cut costs, they dip used sticks repeatedly. This contaminates an entire wax container. Not so at the Beehive specialty waxing salon! Our waxing sticks are dipped into sterile wax once, applied to the client once, and then discarded. During a single waxing session, our professional technicians may use 20 sticks or more!
Q. Are there any age restrictions on waxing?
A. In fact, there are. Beehive is a family-friendly salon, meaning you must be at least 18 years old, or have parental approval/signature, to use our waxing services.
