   On Friday February 26, the Beehive Girlz attended the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner in support of Genie Sutton’s nomination for Business Person of the Year!   It was held at the Four Season Aviara with just close to 600 people in attendence.

 We all love a reason to get dressed up.    It is always a good time when the Beehive staff goes out on the town.   The Beehive Salon of Carlsbad is glad to be apart  of such a great community.  Congratulations Genie we are so proud of you!

What do the Beehive and a food distribution center in Haiti have in common? At first glance, nothing. But if you look a little deeper, you can see that the foundation for both organizations is rooted in relationships.

At the Beehive Salon of Carlsbad, my primary job was helping women to feel better about themselves by looking their best. My secondary job was building relationships. What I loved most about working at the Beehive was the opportunity I had to meet and interact with so many different women every single day. These women would come to me as strangers, and over the ensuing months realized that I cared not only for their beauty needs, but for them as individuals. We were able to share life together, as we laughed and cried at what life had dealt us in the last few weeks between appointments. These women came to me as strangers, and left as sweet friends. Women that I will greatly miss seeing every few weeks, but know that they have been entrusted to other wonderful Beehive girls.

My new job will be working for an organization called Outside the Bowl. My husband and I will be the representatives that will be living in Haiti. Before the earthquake in Haiti, OTB had been working with partners there to build a food center. Since the earthquakes, the need is even greater. OTB is an international organization dedicated to helping alleviate world hunger by developing food production facilities and spreading God’s Word to those it serves. (Go to http://outsidethebowl.org to learn more and our blog site is www.brandonandjessica.org). At Outside the Bowl, my primary job will be to facilitate the operation of a food distribution center. My secondary job, similar to the one I had at the Beehive, will be to build relationships.

To give you a little background, my husband and I both grew up in Southern California. In October 08 we purchased our first home in small town Fallbrook, and were ready to settle down to a quiet country life. However, God had something else in mind. At first it was a subtle restlessness that God wanted us somewhere else. He had been tugging at our hearts for the past year-both individually and as a couple- igniting in us a passion and desire to do missions. But where? And when? After months of prayer, a clear direction came from the Lord… ‘Put your house up for sale’. So, in this terrible economic and housing crisis, we put our trust in Him, and put our house up for sale. It sold in three days!! It just so happened that we were suddenly available to go anywhere in the world, and OTB needed someone to go to Haiti.

So, after two years at the Beehive, I will be trading in my tweezers for spoons. I will be changing the method I use to serve, care for, and love on people. But I won’t be changing the fact that I will continue to love on people, and through those precious relationships, I hope to show them the love of God.    JS

Sure, Cindy and Naomi and Heidi have still got it, but Miss Moss is the one with the perfumes, the fashion line, the big bookings and mini-mes running all over town. Even after that cocaine scandal, Kate continues to reign and Fab and I tirelessly pore over snaps of her attempting to see how she does it. Today we got a little bit closer as the 35-year-old revealed her beauty secrets in an interview with The Times:

Iced water with cucumber; and waxing, definitely — it’s better than shaving. Moisturise, sleep — and happiness: that’s a beauty secret. I know I look different when I’m happy. I don’t really stick to one thing.

Got it. It’s all about the water, moisturising, waxing and happiness. Which I do/am anyway so all I need is a little cucumber and then a rock star shall knock at my door. Here’s hoping (though not for Pete Doherty).

Shaving’s been around for thousands of years, and waxing dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Which is the best method for hair removal?

“When you wax the hair, you’re pulling it from under the surface of the skin. So it can take several weeks, three to four weeks, before you actually see the hairs resurface,” said dermatologist Pat Wexler.

If you shave, Wexler said, you’ll see new hair in a couple of days and the hair will grow back coarser. “Because when you shave the hair you’re cutting the edge of the hair blunt, so when it grows in you always feel the sharpness,” said Wexler.

With waxing, Wexler said the hair will grow back finer. “You create scarring in that hair follicle from the constant pulling,” said Wexler. “And the scarring will diminish the number of hairs that grow back.”

Are holidays just for the kids? not at the Beehive… Even though this has been a really trying  year for so many, we thought taking sometime out for alittle fun, helps the soul.

Over 100 people were screened with just a simple swab on the inside of their cheek. We are pleased with the success and the hopes that we could help a patient and save a life!   The outpour of support and participation made our event second in total number of people screened only to the San Diego Fire Department’s Bone Marrow Registry event.

We want to thank all our partners within the community that made this such a wonderful event. Guests had a chance to win a bevy of prizes ranging from Chiropractic, Massage, and Holistic Health treatments courtesy of Fire Mountain Spine & Rehabilitation Center, dinner and show packages from the Belly Up, A Fitness Pak from Jazzercise, Professional Portrait Session from Creative Photography Inc, Waxing Services, Booty Parlor Products & tanning memberships.

The Food was donated by Tidewater Tavern in Solana Beach a favorite hang out for the Beehive Girls and the Cupcake Diva Liz Bellville.

The Beehive & Co. is all about giving back and it is a motto that all BG’s (Beehive Girls live by) .  Hence, a special thank you goes out to our very own BG Catherine, who was a perfect match for her sister, Kellie and was the light and inspiration behind this great event and the building awareness of such a worthy cause.
